What You Need to Avoid when Doing Business Online   by EVELIA LEVY

There are articles all over the internet with tips on things that you must do if you would like to up your earning potential online. You won’t see as many articles that tell you what you should NOT do if you would like to up your potential for earning on the internet. The fact is that it is exactly as important to learn what to stay away from as it is to learn what to reach for. Learning from the slips of other people can save you a great deal of time and energy. The following are several things that you need to not do.

Do not let yourself get caught up with greed and lust. You will see all types of affiliate offers promoted on websites that show off photos of luxury cars, mansions and beautiful people claiming that they made billions of dollars almost overnight using the exact same software that they are trying to sell to you. Try to keep your wits about you and do a litleresearch before you click the “buy” button. You should do this research on any item being so blatantly sold to you offline. Ensure that you practice this caution online too.

Avoid going too far in such a short span of time. Just dip your toes into the water with something small. Use these smaller opportunities to discover what you should be doing and not doing as you grow. For example, get going with an easily marketable affiliate product. Don’t try to make your own product or set up your own affiliate program when you get started. Start a blog of your own before you start your own subscription based online magazine. This will allow you time to actually get a taste for something before committing yourself completely and then realizing that you hate the field you’ve picked.

There are numerous opportunities to slack off when you work from home. Try to not give in to the urge to slack! If you honestly think better while working on your computer from the sofa with the television on for background noise, that’s completely alright. If you discover, though, that you spend more time watching TV shows than doing work, be careful. It’s a good idea to devote a real space in your home and set aside a certain amount of time to work in that space, just like you would with a traditional day job. It’s extremely vital that you don’t let all of the things that used to take up your time on the weekends take up your time when you’re building your Online Business. This is actually tough when you first start but if you keep working at it, you can train your body (and brain) to tune out all of those distractions that go on when you work from home.

IM novices make a lot of mistakes. These are a few of the most common. Learn from other peoples’ mistakes and allow that knowledge to assist you in getting head of all of the other IM neophytes who represent your competition. Keep in mind that you have to take advantage of every help that comes your way!

What the Bleep Do We Know!?

What the Bleep Do We Know!?

$7.23

The unlikeliest cult hit of 2004 was What the (Bleep) Do We Know?, a lecture on mysticism and science mixed into a sort-of narrative. Marlee Matlin stars in the dramatic thread, about a sourpuss photographer who begins to question her perceptions. Interviews with quantum physics experts and New Age authors are cut into this story, offering a vaguely convincing (and certainly mind-provoking) theory…

Online travel is big business and has become one of the most popular items purchased by consumers on the internet. In 2005, US$106 billion was spent on online travel products and services with air travel alone accounting for over US$65 billion or sisty per cent. This represents almost a quarter of the total worldwide business-to-consumer (B2C) online spending.A variety of contributing factors is responsible for this development: first, the emergence of the internet and specifically the worldwide web and their commercial applications in the mid 1990ssecond, a change in the behavior of consumers who through inexpensive internet access and growing familiarity with easy-to-use technology today shop 24/7 from anywhere in the worldthird, airline companies use the internet not only as a new platform to service, sell and market but – by cutting traditional supply channels and reaching directly to the end consumer – also to realize cost savings in their distribution systemsfourth, the arrival of new intermediaries in the form of internet travel agencies (such as Expedia and Opodo), network affiliates, and mass sales and marketing websites that distribute travel products to the public. Considering the above, airline companies all over the world have integrated (or are in the process of doing so) electronic commerce or e-commerce into their business operations in various shapes and forms. Today, it is no longer a question of ‘if’ for airline companies but ‘how’ to deal with e-commerce and leverage it to enhance their competitiveness. This book explores these issues.

Excerpt: Christopher Julius “Chris” Rock III (born February 7, 1965) is an American comedian, actor, screenwriter, television producer, film producer and director. He was voted as the fifth greatest stand-up comedian of all time by Comedy Central. Rock was born in Andrews, South Carolina. Shortly after his birth, his parents moved to Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York. A few years later, they relocated and settled in the working-class area of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. His mother, Rosalie (née Tingman), was a teacher and social worker for the mentally handicapped; his father, Julius Rock, was a former truck driver and newspaper deliveryman. Julius died in 1988 after ulcer surgery. His younger brothers Tony and Kenny are also in the entertainment business. His older brother, Charles, died in 2006 due to a long struggle with alcoholism. Rock has said that he was influenced by the performing style of his paternal grandfather, Allen Rock, a preacher. Rock began doing stand-up comedy in 1985 in New York City’s Catch a Rising Star. He slowly rose up the ranks of the comedy circuit in addition to earning bit roles in the film I’m Gonna Git You Sucka and the TV series Miami Vice. Upon seeing his act at a nightclub, Eddie Murphy befriended and mentored the aspiring comic. Murphy gave Rock his first film role in Beverly Hills Cop II. Rock became a cast member of the popular sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live in 1990. He and other new cast members Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider and David Spade became known as the Bad Boys of SNL. In 1991, he released his first comedy album Born Suspect and won acclaim for his dramatic role as a crack addict in the film New Jack City. His tenure on SNL gave Rock national exposure. Excerpt: Phyllis Morse (Anderson) (b. 1934) is an American archaeologist. When she started at the University of Michigan to study Anthropology in 1953 she embarked on a lifetime immersed in archaeology by profession and marriage. Her expertise lay in the laboratory, where she worked with materials from prehistoric sites across America. In addition to her own work, she worked on many sites and papers with her husband Dan F. Morse, whom she married in 1960, raising three sons. Her love of antiques led her to open a business in 1979 which she still operates, having retired from academic life in 1997. Anderson was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1934, and attended Crystal Lake Community High, Crystal Lake, Illinois, graduating in June 1952. She became interested in archaeology while studying anthropology at the University of Michigan. In the 1950s there were fewer women at University, let alone any who chose that discipline. She received a BA in anthropology (with distinction) in June 1956, an MA in anthropology in June 1958 and a PhD in May 1959, all from Michigan. Anderson was to meet her future husband, Dan F. Morse because she was not allowed to be the sole woman in the field. She was, however, permitted to be the lab assistant for the Etowah site excavations in 1958 with Dan. They were recruited by Dr. James B. Griffin, their mentor at Michigan and the excavation was led by Lewis Larsen. As a married couple with both doing archaeology at a high level throughout their careers, the Morses are nearly unique in the field of archaeology. Together, often with their three sons on the digs, they worked in many parts of the southeastern US. They spent thirty years in northeast Arkansas (1967-1997) at the Arkansas Archeological Surveys Arkansas State University… More:

Click: What Millions of People Are Doing Online and Why it Matters

What time of year do teenage girls search for prom dresses online? How does the quick adoption of technology affect business success (and how is that related to corn farmers in Iowa)? How do time and money affect the gender of visitors to online dating sites? And how is the Internet itself affecting the way we experience the world? In Click, Bill Tancer takes us behind the scenes into the massive database of online intelligence to reveal the naked truth about how we use the Web, navigate to sites, and search for information–and what all of that says about who we are. As online directories replace the yellow pages, search engines replace traditional research, and news sites replace newsprint, we are in an age in which we’ve come to rely tremendously on the Internet–leaving behind a trail of information about ourselves as a culture and the direction in which we are headed. With surprising and practical insight, Tancer demonstrates how the Internet is changing the way we absorb information and how understanding that change can be used to our advantage in business and in life. Click analyzes the new generation of consumerism in a way no other book has before, showing how we use the Internet, and how those trends provide a wealth of market research nearly as vast as the Internet itself. Understanding how we change is integral to our success. After all, we are what we click.9781401323042 25.95

Creative Capitalism: A Conversation with Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and Other Economic Leaders

Creative Capitalism: A Conversation with Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, and Other Economic Leaders

$0.99

Bill Gates is more than the world’s most successful capitalist; he’s also the world’s biggest philanthropist. Gates has approached philanthropy the same way he revolutionized computer software: with a fierce ambition to change the rules of the game. That’s why at the 2008 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Gates advocated a creative capitalism in which big corporations, the distinguishing feature of the modern global economy, integrate doing good into their way of doing business. This controversial new idea is discussed and debated by the more than forty contributors to this book, among them three Nobel laureates and two former U.S. cabinet secretaries. Edited by author and columnist Michael Kinsley, Creative Capitalism started as a first-of-its-kind online conversation that brought together some of the world’s best minds to engage Gates’s challenge. From Warren Buffett, who seconds Gates’s analysis, to Lawrence Summers, who worries about the consequences of multiple corporate objectives, the essays cover a broad spectrum of opinion. Judge Richard Posner dismisses Gates’s proposal as trumped-up charity that will sap the strengths of the profit-maximizing corporation, while journalist Martin Wolf maintains that the maximization of profit is far from universally accepted, and rightly so. Chicago Nobel laureate Gary Becker wonders whether altruistic companies can survive in a competitive economy, while Columbia Nobel laureate Edmund Phelps argues that a little altruism might be the right prescription for a variety of market imperfections. Creative Capitalism is not just a book for philanthropists. It’s a book that challenges the conventional wisdom about our economic system, a road map for the new global economy that is emerging as capitalism adapts itself once again to a changing world.

Excerpt: The Scampia feud (in Italian: La faida di Scampia) was a feud between the Camorra gangs in the neapolitan quartiere of Scampia and it broke out in 2004 and 2005. The fight was between the Di Lauro clan, from Secondigliano, and the so-called “secessionists” (Italian “scissionisti”), a breakaway faction from the once all-powerful Di Lauro clan in the northern suburbs of Naples that tried to assert its control over drugs and prostitution rackets in the area. Paolo Di Lauro, head of the Camorra clan that runs the northern suburbs, was in charge of a tightly managed drug empire that imported cocaine and heroin and distributed it through an army of dealers. Di Lauro granted neighborhood ringleaders a certain amount of autonomy in exchange for the monopoly and cuts of the proceeds. He went into hiding in 2002 as authorities closed in. He left the business to Vincenzo Di Lauro, one of his ten sons. After the arrest of Vincenzo in 2004, Cosimo Di Lauro took charge. Cosimo Di Lauro wanted to centralize the drug-dealing operation that had been run as a franchise in which dealers paid the Di Lauros a fee for doing business and were allowed to buy the drugs from any available source. The young Di Lauro removed older gangsters and replaced them with young toughs new to the business. In revolt, a faction now known as the “secessionists” challenged the Di Lauros in October 2004. One of the local dealers, Raffaele Amato, disputed the new rules, fled to Spain and organized a revolt against his former bosses. In Scampia, they are known as the Spaniards. Di Lauro responded by ordering the killing of two rebel associates, Fulvio Montanino and Claudio Salerno on October 28, 2004.
